Sanding A Bathtub

Sanding a bathtub. Sand any rust areas and sand the dirty overflow area. If there is extensive damage the restorer may charge nominal extra fees for this. Using your orbital sander or by hand sanding begin sanding with 120 grit paper or sanding disks put your respirator on first. In some cases the tub may also be etched with acid to help the new coating adhere.
Mix a two part epoxy filler until it forms a paste consistency images 1 and 2. Use wet dry sandpaper and sand it with 400 grit sandpaper first and then do it again with 600 grit sandpaper. Either sand by hand with a sanding block or use a palm sander. Vacuum the bathtub to remove debris from the sanding stage.
Remove all the dust with a shop vacuum cleaner. Sand the entire surface of the porcelain bathtub with fine grit sandpaper. Fill chipped scratched or worn areas then sand smooth. Sand the entire tub down well.
Work until the nicks and scratches. Next apply epoxy with a putty knife to fill any chips in the tub s surface image 3. Attach your sandpaper to a sanding block and use a spray bottle to wet down the tub as you work. Lightly sand the entire bathtub to roughen the original finish.
Sand the entire bathtub to work down the gloss and prepare it for paint.
